The short version: Instinct does not collect, store, or sell your personal data. All detection happens through anonymous API calls. We do not track your browsing history, and we never fetch links or tracking pixels from your email.
Instinct is a Chrome browser extension and mobile app developed and operated by Ghostwrighter LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), 1870 The Exchange SE Ste 220, PMB 266966, Atlanta, Georgia 30339-2171, USA. You can reach us at the contact information provided at the end of this policy.
Instinct is an AI content detection tool that analyzes content — text, images, audio, video, and email — to estimate the likelihood that it was generated by artificial intelligence. Detection is an estimate, not a guarantee. The mobile app's Voice Shield feature listens to audio you choose to scan (such as a call on speakerphone) and estimates whether a voice sounds AI-generated.
We want to be explicit about what Instinct does not do:
When you ask Instinct to analyze content, it extracts anonymous content samples and sends them to our server at instinct-proxy.netlify.app for analysis. This server forwards requests to third-party AI detection services (Section 10).
Content samples sent for analysis are:
When you start a Voice Shield scan in the Instinct mobile app, your phone's microphone captures audio in short chunks (approximately 8 seconds each). Each chunk is sent to our server and forwarded to a third-party AI audio detection service for analysis. Audio chunks are:
The microphone is used only while a scan you started is running. Voice Shield requires explicit user activation and microphone permission on your device, and you can stop a scan at any time. The app works standalone; optionally, you can pair it with the Instinct browser extension so scan results also appear on your computer.
If you choose to add your own detection API keys in the extension's settings (for example a Hive or GPTZero key), those keys are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. They are:
Instinct stores a small amount of data locally on your device (the extension uses chrome.storage.local; the mobile app uses your device's secure storage):
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use a feature that requires it.
When you install Instinct (the extension or the app), a randomly generated anonymous identifier is created and stored locally on your device. This identifier:
The Instinct mobile app is free and processes no payments. Optional paid features for the browser extension are handled on the web by Stripe, our payment processor; Stripe handles your payment details under its own privacy policy, and we never see or store your card information. Purchase records are tied to the anonymous installation identifier, not to your identity.
The Algorithm Reset feature is not available in the current public release. If a future release enables it, it automates actions on social media platforms locally in your browser using your existing logged-in sessions; Instinct does not access, store, or transmit your social media credentials or account information, and this policy will be updated when the feature ships.
Instinct routes detection requests through third-party AI analysis services. These services receive anonymous content samples for analysis. We currently use:
The roster of detection providers may change as we work to keep the best available detectors in service; this page lists the providers in current use. Each provider's privacy policy governs their handling of data submitted to them. Content submitted is anonymous and not linked to your identity.
To improve detection accuracy over time, Instinct computes technical measurements from content you ask it to analyze — for example, compression characteristics, frequency patterns, and which known AI generators a detection service named. These measurements are numbers about how content was made, never the content itself: no text, images, audio, or video are retained.
These measurements are stored without your installation identifier, without the address of the page, and without a precise timestamp. They are not linked to you, your device, or your scan history, and cannot be traced back to any person. They are used solely to evaluate and improve detection accuracy, and are never used to identify or profile anyone, and never sold or shared.
Instinct is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
Instinct is designed so there is nothing personal to delete: content samples are discarded after analysis, and the installation identifier is anonymous. Clearing the identifier from your device (by removing the extension or app) permanently disconnects any server-side scan accounting from your device. For any data deletion request or question, contact us at the address below and we will respond promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Instinct after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
